God chose Abraham to be the very first Hebrew, the very first Jewish person. God told Abraham to go to a new land that He would show him. It was to be the Promised Land of Canaan which became known as Israel. Abraham lived there for many years with his wife Sarah.
God was planning to start a new nation of people for Himself there and he chose Abraham to lead His people. It was through Abraham’s descendants that the Jewish/Israelite nation would arise, and one of those descendants would be Jesus, the Savior not only for the Jews but for the whole world.
Abraham eventually appears as a man of great spiritual depth and strength, yet at the same time, he was a person with common human weaknesses and needs. He started slow but finished strong in his relationship with God. He was a man of great faith. This is Abraham’s story.
